Odeon/ Bouleterion

The building which positioned southeast of temenos walls of Temple of Zeus, is at the center of the city. Surrounded by public places like Agora and Doric Hall. The buildings has a square shaped plan and cavea/koilon (seating place) is semi-circular. It has understood that the building was built around 1st century CE and continued to be functional at the middle Byzantine period, by the evidences collected from excavations and research studies. It is thought that it first used as a Bouleuterion (Council Hall) and later as an Odeon. It can be said that the entrances (parados) and seats (cavea) of the building is spoila (re-used material). As evidence of turning the building into an Odeon with some additions around 3rd or 4th century, it can be shown that only a scaenae frons (the front of the stage building) built but no pulpitum (scene platform) established.  When functioning it used as a place which desicions and debates made, and several festivals and activities done.
